Hey,

What you have there is a 400W mogul based Metal Halide light. No such thing as a 50/50 there. Also, if it ran a 400W light, then it will have to run a 400W light in the future. Can't change the wattage from what the ballast is meant for. With that light, get a 400W 14K Hamilton. It will look great with a good actinic glow.

46 Gal bowfront - 350W MH - 65W PC Actinic -CS90 Skimmer - SQWD with locline outputs - 18G refugium RDP- 1/4 HP chiller - 2x96W PCs on sump a fuge for coral frags and macro.
It's an overcrowded home with a little of everything and 5 fish. Thank good the fuge and sump were built for something bigger.

Thats one thing a lot of people dont think about when it comes to lighting for tanks. They look in LFS's or online fish places for lights etc. Commercial green houses use metal halide lights. I found a 400w ballast for $100, 250w was like $80 NEW electronic ballast. Its from a place that makes ballasts for green houses. The mark up in LFS/online fish stores is ridiculus when you come pare it to green house supply stores when you are buying the EXACT same thing. Sunlight supply, which I am sure most of you have heard of, is not originally a supply company for aquarium lights. They make industrial lights and green house lights.
