What is the depth of your tank (top to bottom)? T5's are best for shallower setups like 55 gal. tanks. Any deeper and you're better served with MH's.

Could you raise the halides a few inches? It would make a significant difference. I dunno, I'd wait to hear the advice of some others, but I'm not sure I'd toss the halides in favor of T5's. You're downgrading, and that might not be best when you can still reap the benefits of halides by just moving them up 4 or 6 inches.

I would use halides if I had them. Wait till it is time to replace the bulbs before you upgrade. I you are set on the t5 which I use and love because I have a 75, then look at some tek fixtures. What size tank do you have?

I would recommend Icecap slr retro kit over-driven, i don't necessarily agree that t5's are a downgrade.
