Default Ballast placement help

Hi guys,

I'm hoping you could help me out. The other day I put up this shelf for my 250 watt magnetic metal halide ballasts, which was recommended to me by my electrician to keep air flowing all around them. The tank will be moved up against the shelf, so you won't see it from the front. As you can see I've got my controller on the shelf next to them, and my question is this--will the magnetic ballasts affect the controller in any way? I've always thought you should keep any type of computer away from anything magnetic, but I'm not sure if this applies to metal halide ballasts. If anyone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it!

Its grounded and shielded also in their case you are good to go. But watch out for how close the tank gets to them a drop of saltwater can do some serious damage . Oh and get that power strip off the floor and on the wall and with some sort of splah guard over it.

Don't worry about the electromagnetic field. Used to be that with tapes and MFM hard drives it would be an issue, but you would have to have an insane magnet to mess with the controller. All these things are subject to FCC regs after all and it's not like they have to go into NEBS/hospital/military use

Thanks so much everyone! I feel much better now! I'm not going to use that power strip on the floor; that was just there to check out my lighting; I'm going to use two Profilux digital power bars which will be mounted on the wall...that's a good idea about the splash guard--forgot to ask the electrician about that one--do they sell those as Lowe's or HD?

When I wiring for a living when outside I used a waterproof box like used for a spa or pool they have a acrylic cover you can ask the Lowe's person you may get a sharp one ? Most I ever asked a question of gave me that deer in the head light look ??? I was asking one one for a Thermocouple and he said Oh No we don't carry them in this store ???? I knew I was in the right section and about the time he said No we don't carry them here I said excuse me and on the shelf right behind him they had them from 12 to 36 inch lengths .. Then he went Oh ??? They must have just gotten them in the store (: But look in the electrical isle near to where they carry the gray plastic PVC conduit and boxes . They should have them ..
