Default 200w PC for propogation?

Hi:

I'm trying to be cheap. I have a 48" 220w PC from my old 72 fowler left over. I was thinking of using it for the propogation section in my fuge. The total depth in that section is 18" adding eggcrate I should only have 16" of water in there. I'm pretty sure it will be enough for some softies, but what about SPS? I'm trying to avoid springing for more MH.

What do you think?

Thx,

Bruce

Hmmm.... For propogation... well my opinion is that the mh will help the frags grow quicker. Also, if you grow the frags out under pc.... and then you sell them to someone who puts them under mh, the stony will alot of the times bleach out, which isn't a huge problem as long as you let whoever know that they need to do gradual light increases. I have had no problems with the LPS under PC's and they grow decently.
Most SPS I struggled with in PC lighting. The acros to terrible. The monitora however do exceptional about 6in below the surface.

Thx guys. I guess I'll try it with some softies and see how it goes.

Funny, I mentioned this to a friend. He broke down a 210 and has an old (less than 1 year on it.) transformer that he is giving me. It is 400wx2. I think I'm going to flip out the 2 250mh on the ends of my 300 and just have 3 400w units on the beast. They are due for a bulb change anyway. I wonder if I can use the same reflectors...? If necessary I'll buy some cheapo reflectors and hang a 250 over the propogation section.
