Default Custom Cleaner Crews

Hi everybody,

I have decided to start a thread to help build reef cleaning packages for everyone. However, feel free to start your own thread if this becomes clustered, or if you just feel like it. To make things easier, and to get you the best package let me know as much of the following that you feel like answering:

1. The size of your tank
2. Sandbed or bare bottom
3. Do you have fish, or inverts that you have to feed?
4. If so how many? (Or how many planned)
5. If you have fish, how often do you plan to feed them?
6. How many of those fish would you consider small, medium and large. (I consider a 6 inch fish as large, a medium is about 4 inches)
7. What is your current clean up crew like?
8. How old is your tank?
9. Do you prefer economy or diversity? (Not too much of a price difference)
10. Are you interested in water quality control items like mangroves?
11. About what percentage of the substrate of your tank will be covered by rock?
12. Do you have a lid on your tank?
13. Do you want Priority Mail (tops $11.95), or Express Mail ($27.95). Actual shipping may be lower if you don't need a heat pack, (save $3), or if you qualify for free shipping. Chitons, Florida Fighting Conchs, and Limpets cannot be sent with Priority Mail, unless you live in Florida.

This will give me a good idea of what you need. You don't have to be 100% accurate, but the more accurate the answers the better the results. I will give you quotes on very strong clean up crews that will make tank maintenance very simple. If you prefer a smaller package, please let me know, and I will adjust your CUC accordingly.

Because our prices change frequently by a few cents due to changes in the fishing, we are not able to give you quotes on these packages. If you want to know the cost of a particular package, visit our website where you will find an easy to use shopping cart, which will allow you to quickly find out the price of your package. We are sorry we cannot offer this service at this time, but our prices are based on the time we spend both fishing and working on emails and the website. Because we get so many custom cleaner inquires, we would have to raise prices on our products if we also gave quotes, and we believe that is unfair to our customers. We hope you understand.

All the Best,
John Maloney

It has only been 20 minutes and already we have an inquiry!

Here is what I would recommend adding to your tank: (Express Mail)

130 Dwarf Ceriths
80 Mixed Larger Ceriths
40 Planaxis
40 Nassarius
30 Nerites
10 Limpets
6 Chitons

If you wanted a Florida Fighting Conch then you should get this package: (Express Mail)

120 Dwarf Ceriths
70 Mixed Larger Ceriths
40 Planaxis
40 Nassarius
30 Nerites
10 Limpets
1 Florida Fighting Conch
6 Chitons

Or if you want a package that will be safe to send with Priority mail I would get this:

160 Dwarf Ceriths
80 Mixed Larger Ceriths
40 Planaxis
40 Nassarius
30 Nerites

I also recommend 30 mangroves for water quality. You can get less and still get good results, it just might take a little longer. More would give you faster results.

Please remember we quote for very strong clean up crews, You can get less and still get good results if you don't mind tidying up a bit. These are the very low maintenance packages.

All the Best,
John Maloney

They are all reef safe. If you have unstable rock work though you should pass on the Fighting Conch. If they get scared they can jump, which could move around delicate rock work. It is only really a risk if the rocks are unstable though. They aren't like the Turbos though that move around the rocks as they clean. We don't carry pods at the moment, but some get into our macros, and we can always catch them. We may carry them in the future, we just have to get a system for selling them. I was thinking of selling those reefpods, the company is local and I have heard only good things. It comes in green water though, which has a tendency to cause nuisance algae to bloom, or at least grow. That is my biggest reservation at this point. If we start carrying them I will let you know.

Sorry about the delay, after being up all night packaging today's shipment I have been sleeping until now. (Yours will go out on Thurs. if that is okay with you) Here is what I would get for the 10:

(Priority shipping alright with these packages)

10 Mixed Larger Ceriths
15 Dwarf Ceriths
8 Nassarius

For the 30 gallon:

30 Mixed Larger Ceriths
35 Dwarf Ceriths
12 Nassarius
25 Planaxis
10 Nerites

For the 55:

Mixed Larger Ceriths 45
Nassarius 30
Dwarf Cerith 100
Dwarf Planaxis 35

5 Mangroves at first for the 10 (As they grow and your water parameters become perfect move them one at a time into the 55- you must acclimate)
10 Mangroves at first for the 30 (As they grow and your water parameters become perfect move them one at a time into the 55- you must acclimate)
15 Mangroves at first in the 55, plus the addition of the mangroves that are growing out in the other tanks.

PM me your name, and I will requote you based on the order you made. Let me know if it is okay if I call you about it so you can add, or take away by tomorrow night for Thursday's shipment.

All the Best,
John Maloney

Default need cleanup crew

I have a 55 that has 20lbs crushed substrate, 20lbs sand, and soon to have about 75lbs live rock. I have one percula, one blue damsel and a bicolor chromis. What would you recommend for a good, reliable and somewhat attractive cleanup crew? Thanks a ton....
