Arrow So many choices, how to choose?

Hello Everyone,

I have a new aquapod 24 gallon w/150 MH. I would like to get a good protein skimmer for it. I do not have a sump, so only a HOB will work. However, my cost range is around $120.

The two units I'm looking at are:
1) Coralife Super Skimmer Needle Wheel (65gal)
2) SeaClone 100

Out of these two, which is recommended for proformance and overall value (better buy in the long run)? If you have a better choice please communicate it.

Thanks for your help!

After reading this I ordered a Remora Aqua C w/maxijet 1200 and Drain
AquaC - Protein Skimmers!
Read and see what you think. Nice to spend a few extra dollars to get a plug and play skimmer

I am a very new reefer myself and just went through what you are going through right now. I will try to tell you what i have learned. The remora is the best. There is no doubt about that- everyone will tell you it is the best for the price range you are looking at. My imprssion on this sight is that the seaClone is NOT as good as the the coralife. Perhaps the Coralife is second best?

That being said, I bought the coralife because it is half the price of remora (buy it off Ebay or your crazy) and everyone on here seems to talk very highly of it. Click here:

eBay: Coralife Needle Wheel Skimmer 65 gal New with Pump (item 250057524985 end time Dec-11-06 12:45:20 PST)

Hope that helps. PS, Dont be afraid of giving me my first Karma point if you want- How pathetic am I?

Thanks to all for your useful knowledge.

I feel the Coralife skimmer is probably the most logical answer. However, I still have some questions relating to it. Hopefully euthyphro can anwser since he has first hand experience with it.

1) Do you have any major cases of overflowing or other problems?
2) Is the pump under powered for the unit? (like some units)
3) How is the noise? (not like its a issue)
4) Overall craftsmanship?

Thanks again!

Both of my skimmers are by Coralife, both HOB. The 220 for my 120g tank & the 65 for my 20g.

No problems in terms of overflowing. Pumps seem to be the proper power. No noise to speak of. Very well put together. Reliable company.

Very happy with both units.

My $0.02 worth

Sorry man, I have not recieved it in the mail yet. Im just repeating to you what you will eventually hear from many people on this sight- like ssnake. Just saving you some time. Perhaps you will hear something that i hav not, but for the most part I think it boils down to either the Remora or the Coralife. From what I have heard both are great.

Thanks, now i have enough Karma to do something really sinister without any bad consequences!!!!

I see a lot of peoples signatures with Remora's on them so that is what helped me make my decision. If it was bad everyone wouldn't have one.
