i have a 47g. i am building a sump refugium and am needing help making a decision on a skimmer. my aquarium has been setup for about a year. right now i have a couple of fish and random other things including xenia,gorgonian, shrimp things of that nature. but i want to go to the next step of keepin some corals. all i want is a decent skimmer better

I am new to the marine hobby (have been into fresh for awhile) so take what I say very lightly. *From what I have heard is a skimmer isn't the thing you want to be cheap about. *The price you pay is the quality you get. *I am sure there are exceptions and if there is I would like to hear about the exceptions also.

Just a little tidbit, I like purchasing my electrical equipment from Drs. Foster and Smith. *They have a great return policy, if you USE IT and it isn't to your liking or it isn't what you thought it would be they will take it back minus shipping. *They maybe other sources out there like that but I have used this return policy before.

If you will have a sump I would go with a AquaC Urchin. Great skimmer and are basically plug and play

An Aqua C remora would definately be the right choice for you. Hard to beat there reputation and performance. The JEbo skimmer you are looking at is marginal at best. The Jebos are known to overflow and flood the floor!

everything i have read says that the aqua c urchin would be the best skimmer for me but i dont want to spend that much. cheapest i have seen them is $155. i was hoping to find something cheaper. i understand that i will get what i pay for but i would like to get the best of least expensive. i have seen lots of jebo's and sea clones. or is there so much difference in quality that i should just bite the bullet and buy the aqua c. i just want something that works not something that is kick ass

I agree with Darin, buy the best one you can afford. Many customers try to save money up front by buying cheaper lesser quality equipment only to buy the more expensive product later cause they find out how much better it works and end up spending more overall cause they end up buying twice. Trust me I have bought some of the cheap things too in my day, heck I even bought a skilter years ago ..... now there was a waste of money, only to replace it with a BakPak and find out how much better it was. I then replaced the BakPak(which was a excellent hang on then) with a Remora when they first came out and it was that much better again.
