Octopus PRO 250 Skimmer w/pump: Premium Aquatics

Octo Pro250! If you can swing it this thing is a beast. Otherwise might go with the Octopus NW-200 Needlewheel Skimmer w/pump: Premium Aquatics if you are on a budget.

ASM is old news. I wouldn't get one. The body is cheapo polycarb. Octopus and most mid-grade skimmers use cellcast acrylics. Not to mention I think the ASM is more expensive than the octo. If an ASM cracks its tough to fix. Lots of people use ASM but most of them bought the skimmers several years ago when it was the best low cost option.

As for Euro-Reef they are great if you are trying to support american products and are willing to pay extra to do it. They have a great bunch of guys working there and it always makes me want to pay their premium.

Third option is to either DIY it or find a hobbiest in your area that can make you a custom skimmer on the cheap. This way you can get exactly what you want.

seriously????

I've been making skimmers for 13 years now. Since '95 I have never once bought a commercial skimmer.

Look around on the DIY section. My thread for my recent skimmer is on there. Or check this out DIY 6" Needle Wheel Skimmer
