Default Protein Skimmer and bubbles

Hi, I have had my protein skimmer running for about two days now and have managed to pick up no gunk at all. My collection cup is empty. Is this normal? The other thing is I have heaps of little bubbles in the tank now that I have the skimmer running. Have i set this thing up right?

it will take at least 1 week for most protien skimmers to tune in and start taking crap outta the water or your tank is still new and you are cycling so you wouldnt have any bioload to skim!

Curmon,
What protein skimmer are you using? I finally found the solution for my bubble problems, I now have zero bubbles....I replaced the sponge that came with my skimmer which acts as as a bubble diffuser with a more porous sponge(aqua clear) and placed a new micro bacg from a whisper filter in the bottom of the bubble diffuser cup.

I have a jebo 180 skimmer. I'm a little ignorant about them to be honest as this is my first foray into marine set ups. I wouldn't even know what parts are what. The instructions were difficult to follow so I used the picture on the box to set it up.

I have a Jebo and am also new to this but from what I've read, let it run for a couple of weeks. The local fish told me to open the air valve completely and turn the outlet valve down to slow the amount of bubbles. I did that and the bubbles haven't decreased any. I like the idea of the sponge from BaxterS80 but have no idea where on earth to put it. Then also heard that putting a piece of stocking over the outlet valve would help. But alas, I'm still scanning the many forums on that one.
It would also help if someone could tell me, do I need an external canister filter, small internal pump as well as the skimmer?? Seems like I'm building an ecosystem for pumps rather than fish.

Cheers

Jill

you need water movement but if your filter and skimmer move enough water then you don't need any extra pumps.for certain corals you will need strong water movement.it depends what your putting in there.

Thanks Ziggy222, I have a coral base (not fine sand) so I guess I need the pumps? It's a 120 litre tank with 1 clownfish, 2 yellow tailed damsels, 4 domino damsels, 1 snail and the two worms. Oh and about 12 kilos of LR.

A quick Google search came up with this actually from 3REEF

Yes most skimmers need a break in period.

Hello, I have a jebo skimmer , first time i used a skimmer it took about a week before it started pulling nasty green gunk out of water, but mine looks like its working rather well now , i added more air tubes to it and it has alot of bubbles , give it a little time to break in.
