Download these instructions, I think they refer to the problem http://www.deltecaquariumsolutions.com/MCE600.PDF

A lot of skimmers need a period to settle in. The plastic components sometimes have a film on them that makes them go a bit hay wire to begin with. Once a bio-film develops on the skimmer internal surfaces they tend to calm down a bit.
On the web site I posted above it also said that you will get erratic behaviour if the tank have just been filled. It also mentions using a valve on the water intake pipe to reduce flow if what you are experiencing happens. The last two points are not on the instructtion sheet BTW :-) ( or at least I didn't see them ), but rather on the website.

The ' bubbles ' will always be white :-) Maybe your man was confused between the bubbles and the skimmate that they produce :-)
John
ps. Keep asking your questions here anyway, there a lot of people here who have had a lot more experience than I with skimmers, so if you are patient, others will also help with your probalem. |

| Re: is it just me I agree with John on the settling in thing. It can take some skimmers almost a month to fully get worn in. _________ &&Right now I'm in the middle of a conversion from reef to Discus/ planted aquarium. Hair algae beat me down. Maybe a nano in the future. Everything screwed up so I'm converting to FOWLR. Wish me luck. |
