| Hot Water? Hi guys, (and we apologize if this post has been done before, but we tried searching for it, and couldn't find a similar thread). The guys at one of the LFS told us to pour hot water into the protein skimmer, I forgot what he said it was for, but he basically said to let the skimmer "eat it up" and that it would be better for the cycling. Has anyone heard of this before? And HOT water or warm? And what does this do for the skimmer?
Thanks ahead of time for your responses! =)

| I haven't either. I would watch LFS close because most are just out to make money and will tell you to do things that cost you money later on.
Your cycle needs time, don't rush it. Let mother nature do her job and you will have a healthy tank. _________ Scott 265g (Peninsula)

| Haven't heard that before but I can't imagine what they would be trying to make money off of either, unless it was the gas man and he had the real sales associate bound and gagged in the back..or under the counter! |

| This has driven me crazy since I saw this. If you use hot water to clean the collection cup it helps deserves the greasy residue--I also use a bottle brush. I did read on WetWeb to use hot water to clean it. It will also help to get the original reside off the skimmer to start with. |

Hot water may help speed up skimmer break-in by helping clean off film left behind by manufacture...not a bad idea. _________ AG "125," AquaC EV 180, 30 gal sump, "SCWD", 80 lbs LR, CoralSeaLife "Moonlite" Hood, PFO 250W HQI Mini-Pendant (SPS HQI 14000k bulb)

| This has driven me crazy since saw this. If you use hot water to rise the skimmer it will help remove the greasy residue on it also if you use hot water and a bottle brush on your collection cup, it will clean up easy---hot water helps dissolve grease--It makes it easer to clean!! |

| Theory is it will cut the oils from the acrylic I have heard people say to use dish detergent to wash them out with also . I've never been in that much of a hurry I just wait a day or so to allow it tme to slime over. I dame sure never tried it to lazy (:
With cleaning it just rinse it no need to use soap or bursh and use cool water hot water can and will crack the glue joints . I hold mine under a tap and just use my fingers and or the sprayhose . _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |
