Default HOB protein skimmer question

I just bought a used aquac remora skimmer, the HOB model with a maxi jet 1200 pump. I am also new to this hobby, my question is when I first start the skimmer, should I fill it with water first, or just allow the pump to do its job? Thanks

I had the same skimmer, the model u have and the pro version. Just let the pump fill it up, just make sure to replenish the saltwater it uses in yer tank. Get the overflow box if u dont already have one...work great, keeps the top of the water gunk free.
