Default help with Red Sea Skimmer

I have a 120G display tank with a 35gsump/Ref. and have the XL model Red Sea with The upgraded Turbo pump piped external due to space issues in sump,I cannot seem to get this thing dialed in correctly one day it skims like crazy and the next it wont even be bubbling last night I took the pump out and cleaned it and the skimmer then put it back in place and then it was skimming like crazy but even dialed all the way down it was trying to overflow the cup, finally got it to settle down but had to put airline tubing on overfows on the skimmer because of water coming out of them both any help would be appreciated.

So the XL has the pump upgrade with the Venturi outside the housing?

If that is the case you should remove the stock Venturi, That should help a lot

That's the problem with the Berlin Skimmer, nearly impossible to keep dialed in. I have had the turbo hang-on located in my sump for nearly three years. The slightest variance in water levels will cause it to go wild or completely shut down. Unless they have improved it over the last couple of years the way you fine tune it is by limiting air intake by pinching the air hose with a plastic screw, I guess that alone should have warned me to stay away. It hasn't been a major concern as I have only had a fowlr tank but I am in the process for moving to reef so I will be moving over to an ASM or Euroreef real soon.
