ETSS Downdraft skimmer?

Alrighty then.....I had a reef aquarium about 8 years ago and had a small heat problem when on vacation and lost everything. I am however, ready to begin again. It seems at though the stuff I used back then is now considered "Old Technology". I understand the best skimmer now is a 'downdraft' style skimmer. After researching on line, I think I might get the ETSS Reef Devil. Can anyone offer any input? I would appreciate it.

I do have a Red Sea Berlin HOT venturi skimmer ...I see there is an upgrade to it to add a special pump (needle wheel I suppose) but I have not gotten good feedback regarding it and the fish store told me it is not a very good product...hmmmm it was good enuf to sell to me way back...

The downdraft skimmer are nice skimmers. I myself prefer the euroreefs over anything but both do a good job. Downdraft skimming is said to be plankton friendly; i think it is a marketing gimmick more than anything though. If you stick with a reputable name like aqua-c, euroreef, ETSS, etc you really cannot go wrong. Although to get the max effect from a downdraft skimmer the downdraft chamber needs to be fairly long for max bubble production. I have witnesed a small ETSS skimmer next to a comparable sized euroreef and in my opinion the Venturi equipped euroreef produced a darker smeller skimate and was a lot quieter.

Thanks for the reply....after reading some of the many many posts regarding skimmers....it appears the euro-reef is a very popular choice. I checked out the site.....I think it looks good
