Default Double Skimming?

I was reading yesterday that some people run double skimmers. Seems like a logical idea I suppose, but any experience or opinions out there?

As long as you do regular water changes you are replacing needed trace elements for the reef setting.

The trace element thing is barely an issue. I highly doubt any of the salts that promise those trace elements can actually guarantee that they are in every bucket. Not to mention with the additives is a crap shoot as well. Far too much dilution to make promises.

If you run two skimmers on the same system you will see that the cleaner and more efficent skimmer will pull the lion share of the DOCs out. That can change as the other skimmer becomes the cleaner one.....This is all assuming you are running identical skimmers. If not the better design skimmer will do the best job. The lesser skimmer will still pull but will not be the primary skimmer on the system...Its cool just to set things up like this and see what happens. Its crazy that they dont both pull the same amount.

I would say no matter how many skimmers you run make sure you have enough skimming capacity to do 3 to 5 times the tank size if not more
