Yeah that might do the trick. You might want to send a Private message to skennelly - he won one of these skimmers (well a g1 anyway) on 3reef and might be able to help.

So, does your skimmer have a foam filter on the dump tube?
If so make sure that the water passes through it.
Could your return pump be creating the bubbles or, could they actually be small particles of sand?

Hey Guys,
This was my reply to vamp75's private message. Thought you all should see it as well.

Vamp75,
Yep, I have the G1. I never really had a problem with microbubbles, mine has the sponge that goes over the output tube, I have the sponge about an inch or so higher then the output tube. When I first installed it I could see alot of microbubbles coming out of the output tube, but it never caused a problem in my display tank. After running for about 2 months the only time that I see micro bubbles coming out of the output tube is right after I do something to the tank....ie feed, put my hand in the water, or dose something. Even so I think my sump is able to dissapate the bubbles well enough that it isn't a noticable problem in my display tank.

I think you should give it some more time and let the skimmer run for a few weeks before you panic too much. As they said in previous posts, it takes a while for the skimmer to develop the scum coating that helps with microbubble problems.

Honest I don't see a micron sock doing anything in this case. Since the output tube is raised up out of the water, the output water has to freefall for some distance which will always cause some kind of bubbles.

If I'm not mistaken I thought I saw a mod on the asm website where you can get a kit that replaced adjustable output tube with a piece of pvc pipe and a simple ball valve to control the output flow just like raising the tube up or down. In that case you could probably put a micron sock over it and get some results.

This is the ASM website page with the mod.

hope it helps

Default Micro bubbles with my G-1x

I was wondering if you had any luck with mods or time in eliminating the micro bubbles. I just setup a 110G tank with an ASM G-1x and am having the same issues.
