| AquaC Remora Skimmer With Bigger Pump Matt:
I cant find our origional thread about the aquaC skimmers and using bigger pumps to boost performance. Well I got that new pump finally. I hooked it up a week ago but because it is a new pump and has the oils from the factory and being new the thing had to break in. It is really filling the cup now. Im getting a full cup of dark black skimmate every 3 days. This is in my new 55 with old liverock from my other tank and a 5 inch new DSB that I seeded. about 10 hermits and 1 damsel and 1 dottyback. Im gonna get a couple more
pumps for my other skimmers. If you want to move this post into that other thread feel free. Please let me know the location of it if you do. http://www.3reef.com/photos/showphot...cat=500&page=1 http://www.3reef.com/photos/showphot...cat=500&page=1 http://www.3reef.com/photos/showphot...cat=500&page=1
Thanks Matt
Jay

| Re: AquaC Remora Skimmer With Bigger Pump Jay, I posted about using a larger pump on the Remora skimmers. I use a Via Aqua 1300 pump at 370gph on my smaller remora and I'm jumping up to a Rio 1700plus pump from the 1400plus on my remora pro. I've had the same same exeprience in jumping up to the larger pump. My remora is skimming much more now. _________ 75g reef with Nova Extreme 8 bulb HO T-5 lighting, refuge, Remora skimmer, DSB, Seio powerheads, Acro's, LPS corals, assorted zoo's & mushrooms, Yellow Tang, Maroon Clown, Blue Cleaner Goby , Cleaner, Fire and Sexy Shrimp, Coco Worm, T.Crocea Clam, Derasa Clam

| Re: AquaC Remora Skimmer With Bigger Pump Heres the link to the auction that I got the oump from. It was a buy it now for 18 bucks, great deal.
Its the Via Aqua - Water Pump Model 306 - (0-526 gph). It took a full week to break in the pump to rid it of the oils. Matt that is the skimmer that never produced any skimmate. The one that Remora sent me a replacement. Makes me wonder what it would do on my skimmer that works ok with the with that 1200 pump that it came with http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1 |

| Re: AquaC Remora Skimmer With Bigger Pump I've ran a Mag 5 on my Remora Pro since it was new. Recently I had to throw a Hyperflow 14 on because the impellow on the mag needs to be changed. This Hyperflow looks like it was designed for the skimmer. The outlet tube is offset so the body of the pump wont hit the glass and the intake is directed away from the flow out of the skimmer. The slotted cover over the intake looks a lot nicer than the prefilter sponge on the mag and the corse plastic mesh prefilter on the hyperflow will only trap large particals that might damage the impellor. The gunk that needs to get to the skimmer will pass right through.
The 14 is a little overkill for the skimmer, I have the collection cup as high as it can go
now and it is still skimming a little wet IMO. I am going to try a smaller model, got a Hyperflow 10 on the way. Wanted to try a 12 but you go with what you can score a deal on. |

| Re: AquaC Remora Skimmer With Bigger Pump The Rio hyperflo will also be much more energy efficient than that mag 5. I've got a HF 12 as my return pump and have no probs yet. In fact all my Rio pumps are running great, but I'm probably just lucky although all my pumps are the newest models. |

| Re: AquaC Remora Skimmer With Bigger Pump FYI, the Remora can handle up to a Mag 5 and the Remora Pro can handle up to a Mag 9, but the Mag 7 gets the best performance.
Similar gph pumps would work the same..just using Mags as a reference. |

| Re: AquaC Remora Skimmer With Bigger Pump I've tried a 600gph pump on my standard remora and the foam is too wet and too many bubbles. |
