Default another skimmer question
I'm sure I should be able to find this in a post somewhere, but I couldn't find it when I looked and I'm not sure what to type in the search.

Why does a protein skimmer have prefilter? Doesn't this kind of defeat the purpose of it?

Good question. MOst that I run across don't have a prefilter persay with filtratraion but more of a surface skimmer. Which skimmer has one you are looking at?

The one that I saw was a visijet, it has a sponge type prefilter on the end of it. Wouldn't this cut down on the waste products going to the skimmer and work as a debris catcher?
