Got some feedback from Hagen regarding the surface skimmer... In a nutshell... the skimmer must be monitored and adjusted periodically, it does not self adjust to the water level as I originally thought. You either replace the evaporated water or adjust the skimmer!

I'm interested in getting this surface skimmer for myslef. I have a 10 Gallon tank and a small Whisper HOB filter. My questions are: Will this attach to any intake on most HOB filters? Also, is this device too big for a standard 10 gallon tank? Any replies or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Peter.

It will work on most HOBs I would think, it has a standard fitting. I have it on a 6 gallon Eclipse, so a 10 should be no problem.

The clear plastic piece should be just above or at water level. You need to adjust it so that water from the surface spills over the Sawtooth portions. That is how you get surface skimming

Yeah and use the flow adjuster pole to adjust the intake at that bottom, when you find the sweet spot, it will pull from the top too.

Another question please.

I'm currently using a Magnum 350 Canistor filter. If I replace my current bottom intake with this, will it introduce air into my canistor? I have a thin layer of stuff on the surface that I would like to get rid of. Any ideas? Please help.

If you set it right, it will not produce air, however, it's possible if you set it to draw too much from the top.

If you want a safer option, get the Eheim surface extractor, doesn't pull the surface as well, but it's self adjusting.

Thank you for your reply. I did some searching around and ended up buying two black mollies to see if they will help clean the surface. Took them home last night. After diner, I found 14 little babies swimming around. I'll try this for a week, if this doesn't work, I'll get the Fluva Surface Skimmer like your's. I found an online store that has it for $9.99 plus shipping.

Once again, thank you!
