Default FW planted tank Q?

I have a 36gal HEX and I would love to have a FW planted aquarium. I am a huge fan of metal halides and would like to hang a 175w 10K pendant above the tank. Is this to much light -> if so what’s the max watts I should have? If not will the light cause rapid growth requiring me to get a c02 injection system?

Thanks guys,
Syndicate

Well The 175 watt bulb would provide a little over 4 watts per gallon so i think you should be good,, but if you use that much light your plants will grow fast and big so u will need co2 most likely.

I agree on that the light will make your plants grow incredibly fast, but it isn't necessary to go and buy a big Co2 system. Do a Googler search on DIY Co2 fertilization. It's a heck of alot cheaper and normally does the trick.

&&Right now I'm in the middle of a conversion from reef to Discus/ planted aquarium. Hair algae beat me down. Maybe a nano in the future. Everything screwed up so I'm converting to FOWLR. Wish me luck.
