Hi, I've been trying to find some information about treating my RODI water before I use it in my water change. My current method for creating and prepping water with the use of a 5 stage filter (75 GPD) goes like this: Fill container with RODI (25g), add circulation pump and air stone, heat water to ~81F, add Instant Ocean Sea Salt and let is age for about 48 hrs.
I have read that RODI water needs to be treated with something before adding it to the aquarium because the RODI water (i guess) has little buffering ability or something along those lines. So I am just wondering if I should be adding something to my RODI water before adding to aquarium.
    Thanks for the help. :)

from what I read into what you are saying, you are doing fine.

fill bucket w/ RO/DI, heat it, add salt, mix it, let it sit for 24 hours or more, then test SG (again). Do water change.

RO/DI doesn't need to be treated anymore than the salt mix does itself. You may find you need to add cal or mg or maybe even alk to the fresh mixed SW to help keep the DT on target... but that's a matter of param stability not 'treating' the water...

    RO/DI is literally just water.

just to be clear, this is for making up new SW for water changes correct? because if it's just for replacing evaporated water you do not want to add any salt to it.

Perhaps you were referring to some RO water have a low PH initially and some using a buffer to raise it? A good salt-mix should take care of that for you and raise the PH if that is the case.

True, I used to have a buffer for my ciclid tank that was designed specifically to condition RO/DI water to the correct parameters

Your salt should have everything you need....RODI needs to be treated mostly for fresh water tanks ( I read this somewhere)
