| Transfering to a 100g I was hoping for a little advice on transfering from a 46g to a 100g. The 46 has been up for about 6 months and has about 50lbs of LR and 15-20lbs of LS. I got a 100g tank and stand yesterday and was wondering what the best procedure would be to get everything over to the new tank. I only have 2 little fish at this point, but about 10 pieces of coral. I also purchased another 80lbs of aggrigrate and 55lbs of lace rock. I was wondering if I need to let the new tank cycle with the new stuff in it, or if I could put half of the LR and LS that I already have in the new tank with the new stuff I just bought to kick start a cycle.
Thanks |

| Simple get the new one ready and have enough water on hand to finish off what the water from the older tank won't cover also out all animals in to buckets with the old water then take all your sand and rock out and move them over BUT only put the old sand on one half of the new tank and as deep as it is in the old tank.. Use new sand of the same type to fill the other half. Put in the rock and add the old and new water add coral and get it flowing and heated ASAP. May get a little spike ? But should be fine thats how I always dod them have applied this same methoed here on two systems and many others for friends ..Any quastions ask away. _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

| So I can transfer livestock after the temp is up or wait a few days? Also from what I have read in other posts the animals and corals wont have to have to be re-acclimatized, is that correct?
There will be 2 young clowns, toadstool leather, hammer head, candy cane, birds nest, galexia, open brain, xenia, a few mushrooms, ricordia, and a few different types of zoa's. |

| I break them down and set them up like this any old time never been a problem yet . Just get it all ready first once you start there is no stopping ..Have extra new water to top it all off as the smaller system will be a little short have the new tank set up and run leak tested with Freshwater then drain it after it all checks (pipes and pumps) out and then just get tubs to old corals and water from old system and hit it scoop out old sand and add it as level as you'd like as far as it will go use new un rinsed good agranite sand to finish that off level across any bare portions of the new tank move the L/R and refill .. with corals and old water and top it off with new.. Temp really matters not as long as its close.. I try to heal the new up to the existing that way the will balance out during the move.. |
