Default Super Glue "tack welds" on glass

Well, my brother just bought his 125RR tank so I'm going to start work on the sump / fuge for it.

I was wondering if using superglue to help secure the glass / acrylic baffles in place long enough for the silcon to dry?I saw a few use bricks to keep them up right while the silcon dries but with how I designed my system, that isn't going to really fly.

Yah, you could do that, but it'll leave weak spots in the silicone. I use masking tape, the 2" wide blue stuff for painting.

why would the small areas be weak spots? Wouldn't the silcon cover the spot, both the tank and the baffle?

I'm just talking about a few drops, not the entire side getting coated.

The only issue I would see is that the super-glue "MAY" weaken the area it's affixed to. By that I mean, super-glue gets hot (chemically) and my soften the acrylic at the place where the super-glue is. This may lead to leaking........
I would go with the 2" blue masking tape, that is a much wiser idea. Also, super-glue will not be forgiving when you put the baffles together. Once it sticks, you are done.
When I was a kid, I used to build model cars, and planes using super-glue. too much, and the plastic would melt. Make a mistake, and the model is ruined.

Just my $.02 worth.
Blue

EDIT: I would try to mold two pieces of scrap acrylic together and then silicone the two together and see what happens. I would worry about the chemical interaction between the super-glue and the silicone....

not a bad idea. I just figured I could tack in all the peices then just do a mass silcon of the entire tank, put it in the garage and let it set (and smell) til cured.

I just figured it would be less time to get it finished.

The silicone will cover the tack, but the tack will provide a spot with a smaller amount of silicone unless you put more there. Thats all I was saying. It won't weaken the plastic, its a little different the the old model glue kids used to sniff. Geez, I remember they'd sell that to anyone back then. You can't even get a spray paint can around here with out asking to get into the cage

The problem with useing super glue is that it will craze the plastic, resulting in a milky white area around where it was applied. If you are ok with that go for it. But, personaly I would use masking tape.
