| Small 6 gallon tank with Glofish Hi,
I'm interested in setting up a small 6 gallon freshwater tank with just zebra danio glofish. This is my first tank since I was very young. A few questions:
1) The maximum size according to this is 1.5 inches. Glo-Fish | Danios & Minnows | Freshwater Fish | Aquarium Livestock - ThatPetPlace.com I've heard you want 1 inch of fish per gallon, but can I get away with 6 of them? I don't want to cramp them.
2) Is there a preference between Aquapod, JBJ Nanocube, and Eclipse System 6? Is there a difference in the quality of the included filtration? Is one better or worse for a beginner?
3) Glofish glow under ultraviolet light...but I searched drsfostersandsmith, thatpetplace, etc. and can't find a light selector (dunno the technical term) that lets me switch between uv and normal lighting just by flipping a switch...something like this must exist, yes?
4) Is it in general a bad idea to order fish online? Is the shipping process traumatizing to the fish?
Thanks. |

| OK first of all one of my Local Fish Stores sells those things and they are the BOMB!! In fact my bf is gonna setup one of my old tanks with them soon.
Your first question: Yes 6 fish in a 6 gallon will be fine.
Second question: I don't honestly know. In your case with those fish, it probably doesn't matter. For that reason I suggest going with the one that best suits your budget.
Third question: No. The UV lights are a different bulb altogether. Simply put, they're black lights. Unless the tank you want (which I know none of the 3 you mentioned have) has two bulbs and one is the regular light and the second is the black light, you won't be able to achieve this. Sorry. And anyways, while that may be a cool "feature" of the fish, you shouldn't concern yourself with being able to pull this off.
Fourth question: No and No. How do you think they get our saltwater fish and corals to us? There ARE tank raised fishes, but for the most part they pull them right out of the ocean, ship them across sea, and in my case, much further inland. It's true some fish die during transit, but I would bet my bottom dollar that my yellow tang in my tank right now is from Hawaii or something.
It's too bad you don't have an LFS that sells those fish like I do. THEY ARE SOOOO COOL! Easily my favorite freshwater fish. I say go for it! _________ 125 Gal Reef. | Are you aware of a tank that has the natural/uv switching feature? I know it's a different bulb, I just thought there may be some light fixture which accommodates two bulbs and you can flip a switch and get either one. |

| they sell mods for some of the bigger nanos to use a dual ballast and two switches, why dont you just get a small blacklight like the light from a ten gallon hex aquarium, and a black light bulb and hang it on the side of the tank
