If you don't have the money for some Tunze then I used to run a Wavemaker with 3 MaxiJet 1200 and it did great. MJ's can handle the starting and stopping all the time which most PH cant handle. Tunze are nice but they are not cheap, don't know what your budget is.
Welcome to 3reef!

Welcome to 3reef!

+1 on that.
Also, people are liking hydors lately too and I think they are cheaper than Tunze. I don't think they work well with wavemakers though from what I understand.

What wave timmer did you get ? the red sea thst shut's offthe pump 100% during the cycle or the Coralife that just lowers the power to slow rthe pump to 20% of its normal flow ? Thats what makes the difference of how I'd do the thing.. Red Sea wave makes then the Maxi Jets the reduced speed then I'd just go with two of the Koralia 3's or even just the 2's in a tank that small

I heard this as well, When I got my hydor's there was also a notice inside not to use them for wavemakers. I believe there is a post on this board somewhere as well that someone tried to use them and they died within a few weeks.

Firstly welcome to the 3reef my freind,
I also have a 55gl and run 4 1200m/j's with hydor deflectors (never had a problem with them) I use a Wavemaker that I fabricated myself but its ajusted to change pumps every 17sec (which I choose after fine tunning over a few days ).
You can see them at work in this short vid.

I love em good cheap option IMO.
