| Ok lets see. We had some sea horses in the lab a while back.
Temp: 78 F Same as most fish.
Tankmates: Make sure they are docile and friendly. If a fish is too agressive at eating, the seahorse might not get enough food.
Food: I would say that brine shrimp is a good idea. Using a soak too would have with vitamins.
I would be wary to add them to a tank with a puffer because of their eating habbits... _________ Tank Specs:
55 Gallon Mixed Reef
48" Tek Light: 4-54W T5 HO Fluorescents
Bulbs:
1 x 54w Fiji Purple T5 HO Fluorescent
1 x 54w Super Actinic Blue T5 HO Flourescent
1 x 54w 14000K AquaBlue 75/25 T5 HO Fluorescent
1 x 54w 10000k AquaSun T5 HO Fluorescent
Hard Stuff:
100+ lb. Fiji Live Rock
65+ lb. Live sand |

| Seahorses are very difficult to keep, especially to get them to feed and with many boisterous fish, they will not make it!
Best to have them in a separate specialized tank...and Brine shrimp, Rotifers, Cyclops are a good choice for food stuff!
Water quality is of utmost importance as well! _________ 125gal.w/Mag9.5 return(dual megaflow)>Mag7 pump Aqua Cev180skimmer.Wave2k Hamilton Reefstar(2)250watthqi(mh)pend.a Yellow, Naso Tang Red Lip Blenny Percula Clown Demoiselles Niger Trigger F. | As this site has no seahorse forum, it would be best to go to the seahorse.org site and be prepared to do a lot of reading as there is so much to learn before getting into this hobby.
While some hobbyists do put other fish in with the horses, it's best to keep a species specific tank.
Buy only tank bred and raised for best results, not wild caught or "net pen" raised which many are just saying captive bred but not specifying that they were captive in a net pen in the ocean. Net pen and wild caught are both subjected to the same pathogens from the ocean and are not as successful in keeping as tank bred and raised.
For those of us in Canada, it is very difficult to get tank bred and raised horses.
Ivan in Montreal sells ones that he breeds and raises himself.
Feed mysis shrimp and maybe once a week, live adult gut loaded adult brine shrimp loaded with vitamins.
Different species live in different temperatures, but for best success, keep them under 74F |

| I know someone who breeds seahorses and I am interested in keeping 2 of them. I have learned quite a bit about them. They should be housed in a tank on there own with lots of things for them to wrap themselves on. Water perameters are the same as a reef. It is more beneficial to not use LR as parasites and hitchhikers are common and are a concern in a seahorse tank. They require very minimal flow due to their gentle nature. Feeding needs to be done twice a day and it is better to have a sump but it can be done without one. And from what the person has told me, it's easier having seahorses than a reef. _________ 20g
25lbs LR
1 hydor koralia
rio nano skimmer FISH: blk/white clown, damsel, yellow watchman goby CORAL: grn open brain, acan, torch, rics, toadstool, zoo's
INVERT:[/u] hermits, nassarius, astrea, turbo's, nerites, crocea clam
