Default Rock from lake

I was by my lake the other day to see if I can cure my rock in there and I saw this nice sized rock by the banks. I was wondering if I can take it and cure it in saltwater for like a month in a dark place to kill off the FW bacteria, then use it in my tank. Would it work? Any harms?

Thanks!
GKW

If your looking for a way to save money on rock you might try these guys.
http://www.reeferrock.com/store/Qstore.cgi
As far as using an random rocks out there you might get away with it you might ruin your tank and totally have to reset it up again. I've seen people go as odd ball as use broken up lumps of concrete in a tank and it works. I have also seen people you use unapprove rock have MASSIVE algae or cyano problems from stuff leaching out of the rock.

I would keep making rock like your doing or order some dry base rock.

Is it really worth chancing a non marine rock of unknown makeup, that might leach copper and other harmful metals into your tank?
