Default reef plus

Ok I have some Xenia frags that I got from a local propogator. I have been having problems with them not pulsing like they did in his tanks and they are starting to close their "hands" now. He suggested I use reef plus for the vitamins, amino acids, and the small trace amounts of iodine as xenia use up iodine. I not only run a skimmer but a filter w/ carbon which would slowly deplete the above mentioned.

Have any of you used this product and what do you feel about it. I tested everything and it is all perfect so I don't know what else could be the problem besides iodine and my specific gravity being 1.023. I know it's low but I thought it was the sea waters natural level? I am going to slowly raise it with my top up's with 1.025. I top up every night and it is small amounts, would doing this shock anything?

You could raise that to 1.025 in a night without much worry. Of course I would agree slower is better. I strongly encourage you to test your water for iodide and iodate if your going to be adding it. If it gets overdosed, bad things can happen. I would think regular water changes should keep your iodine in acceptable levels. In my experience Lugol's solution by kent is handy to have around for a few reasons. First things first, get your specific gravity up and give it a few days. If you do too much at once, you won't know what really was the problem.

How long has the xenia been in your tank? It may be a few days before it starts to act like normal.

My guess is that when you get your salinity normalized, it won't be long before the xenia is pulsing Time will tell

xenia tends to flourish when your specific gravity hits 1.026, calcium above 400, strong flow and temperatures around 81 degrees. i've never dosed iodine supplements and my xenia pulses like crazy. i hope that helps.

Thanks Everyone. All Perameters Are Perfect Except The Sg And I Have To Test The Iodine. Will Test Before Adding Anything.
