Default IS A R/O REQUIRED ON WELL WATER?

JUST WONDERING IF A REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM WOULD BE REQUIRED FOR WELL WATER?? WE HAVE A WELL FOR OUR WATER HERE, SO THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH CHEMICALS OR CHLORINE, JUST WONDERING IF IT IS NECESSARY?
THANKS
ALSO... DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY GOOD QUALITY USED EQUIPMENT FOR SALE?? I NEED PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING FOR A 75-100 GALLON TANK,
PROTEIN SKIMMER, PUMPS, METAL HALIDE LIGHTS, HYDROMETER.PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING. I AM READING ALL I CAN, AND IT WILL BE ANOTHER MONTH BEFORE I AM READY TO START MY TANK. I WANT TO RESEARCH EVERYTHING FIRST. BUT I WANT TO START BUYING EQUIPMENT NOW, SO I DONT HAVE TO BUY IT ALL AT ONCE.
THANKS

Probably a good call on the R.O..
But what I would do first is get a T.D.S. (total dissolved solids) meter and test the water.

I got mine from sponsor Air Water Ice. It's digital and is a great deal at $30 I believe it was.

If you get a reading of 50 or less you are probably ok if it stays that way.

But if it's over, I'd think about an R.O... Actually Air Water Ice has great R.O. kits too, I think someone got one here and is happy with it.

hope that helps..

matt

I'd imagine you'd need to worry more about the trace metals in the water. My parents live in the country and it has I believe iron in the water. I however live in sweet sweet chicago so I have to get a RO/DI when I get my system goin.

Sometime agricultural runoff contains high Phosphates. That will cause algae problems. In addition to checking the TDS, I would test for Phosphates and Nitrates.
