|  Quarantine tank
I have been reading about setting up a quarantine tank and have heard that it is a good idea to lower the salinity to around 1.010-1.013 so as to kill off any parasites while the fish is in it. I was wondering what people thought of this, is this standard practice or could it just add more stress to the fish? |

I say your SG need it to be as close to your dt's (that's display tank,  , Luna or was that Mission???) as it is in your QT _________ Got Questions? Need Answers?

Hyposalinity. When I've used QT tanks for treating various things, I've always slowly dropped salinity over a period of time. However, I've only QT'd fish that have needed treatment. I use temporary QT. It's great to have if you have the room and suggested,but, I don't use one. I do think that slamming a touchier fish into hypo would be sketchy. Some fish are able to handle higher levels of stress than others. |

Well I'm new to the hobby and the whole ich thing scares the heck out of me. So I bought my first clown on 3/11/08. Started to lower the SG on the 23rd. Just got it to 1.011 today. I don't thinkj it will stress them jst do it slow. | |

I run my qt at 1.010 - 1.011 salinity. The lfs keeps their salinity low so that they don't get mass outbreaks in their system. This helps me,because I don't have to worry about stressing them out, for it is already done.

The QT and DT should be the same salinity and temp. Salinity in the QT should be adjusted (slowly) only when being used as a treatment center. Once the treatment is finished the salinity should be again adjusted (slowly) to match that of the DT.
You may, I guess, keep different salinity levels but you would need to acclimate the fish with every transfer. (more stress)!
IMO salinity of 1.010 - 1.011 is rather low. | |
