Default Quarantine ?

How long do you keep your fish in quarantine and do you do anything to them while they are ? I have heard all kinds of stuff ?

what am I getting into ?
5 years with 3 cichlid tanks and a 55 hex fish only salt tank .It's been three years without now it's time for a reef !

Time varies but on average about 3-4 weeks.

If they are in quarantine because they're new additions just feed them. If in quarantine because of sickness feed and apply medications where applicable.

IMO your quarantine tank should have no sand or rock. You may place a piece of PVC tubing for a hiding place.

Hope this helps.

The only "quarintien" my fish have ever gotten is the ride home from the lfs in a plastic bag.LOL
If you want to Q them correctly it needs to be more like 2-3mths in the tank to assure complete purification of the fish.
other wise your just waisting time and money

Pretty much agree.

Quarantine needed only for sick/weak fish. Or giving them some time to unwind from stress of movement from home, to LFS then to your tank.

I just do this for new ones for couple of days before adding to tank.

A little Cu based treatment in QT tank does not hurt for some added protection...

Scott

And still check your critical water parameters in the quarantine tank. Water parameters are not as stable in a fresh qt tank w/o LR and LS, or some other filter with bacteria, etc in it.
