Default protein skimmer???????

I've only had my reef going for about 5 months now. I have never used a protein skimmer, and was looking at Sapphire Aquatics protein skimmer for the 24g nano cubes... Has anyone ever used this skimmer? Does it take place of the filters?

I hear about other people with larger tanks using them, but do I need one?

Thanks

I've never used that skimmer but I can tell you a skimmer is a good investment for long term water quality.

Never used it but for that price you should probably look into something with a little more volume. Those are so compact to fit into an all in one.

Default I know

Well I do have a jbj nano cube. thats why I was thinking about getting it. It fits into the overflow. But my filters go there, so do I just take the filters out and the skimmer would take the filters place?

i would look into the coralife super skimmers they are awesome for the money and you could have it hang on the back of your cube and leave your fileter media in place cheaper and probably more effective although i have never had any expierence with the skimmer you had mentioned

you should look into aquac Remo, you can even get a nano remo.. i have a 20 gallon long and just bought one with the maxijet 900.. these skimmers dont use needle wheels or airstones, they have a new injection method for smaller bubbles and the skimming is awesome... lots of black smelly thick foam.. dunno if ittl fit on your tank, its a hob filter though..

I'm not too sure, I'm not too familiar with them. Email them or nanotuners and they'll let you know. I think there is an empty compartment though and it goes in there.

Talking air driven protein skimmer

I've never used a sapphire proein skimmer. But i can give you advice on a current nano skimmer. DO NOT GET ONE> Biggest waste of money i've ever spent. I have a sump on my 12 gal dx and have a air driven protein skimmer in it that stands about 8 inches tall. My air driven skimmer took more junk out in day then the current nano skimmer did in a year.

I have a fellow 3reefer friend who has a 24gallon tank(reef) with the Sapphire Aquatics skimmer, and it fits nicely in the back of the tank, conceiled and out of the way. It does a pretty good job and a skimmer is one of the best and most important parts of a marine tank you could invest in.
