Default Pro Clear Protein Skimmer Problem

Hi All,

New member here. I've had my 55 gal reef tank set up for 2 weeks now and am having skimmer problems. Tank has live sand, about 45 lbs of live rock (cured), 10 snails/crabs and two damsels. Tank was initially filled with RO/DI water which I have also used for top up. I have a pro clear wet/dry that i'm using as a sump. Problem is that the pro clear skimmer (MPS 75 w/Rio 600) is not making any foam. It appears to be adjusted correctly and has appeared to be making foam once or twice but has now stopped and just has lots of bubbles, but no real foam building up or collecting in the cup. Any ideas? Is the Rio too small?

Thanks,

Not familiar with that model but is it possible that the skimmer doesn't have anything to pull out yet? You have a very low bioload and your rock was fully cured so it's quite possible that this is the case?

Could be. I'll monitor it for another week or so and see what happens.
