Cool Powerheads

Hey Everyone, How Do I Know If I Have Enough Current Going Through My Tank? Anyway To Tell? I Have A Mxi Jet 400 Powerhead On One Side Of My Tank And Then My Aqua Clear Filter On The Other Side. Should I Get Another Powerhead And Place It Lower In The Tank? Thanks Everyone.

A healthy tank water turn over rate to strive for is 6-10 times per hour
Here is a good link

Your Skimmer will add flow but not very much. Most of the flow that goes into the skimmer gets used so that it is a much less flow. I would say if your skimmer is using a 300pgh pump it would be coming out at 100gph or less.

add a Rio hyperflow 620, its 620 gph and the flow can be dialed down if you like. It only uses 8 watts of power. I have 3 of them and they work great. They are not good for on/off applications. For that I would stick with maxijet pumps.

I would add a couple of more. I have 3 Aquaclear 301's in my 45...plus the skimmer return and a hang on filter. Sometimes, I think I can still use another powerhead in there. Lots of flow is a good thing!
