Powerhead sucked fish in, how to prevent this?! - Page 2

the powerhead should have a strainer in the attachments to place at the intake side of the pump. gel
super glue works wonders.

A sponge works great, but needs to be watched as it will clog up quick.

Basically, small, juvenile, weak swimming fish do not mix well with a strong powerhead.

I lost a very little hippo tang to one when first starting out. Traumatized me. Of all the possible ways to kill a fish, this appeared to be the easiest avoided.

Sorry about loss.

sponges are not a good idea due to bacteria and floating debri.

Anybody know if a Hydor Koralia #2 would suck in and kill any fish over 1-1/2" that aren't weak or sick. And would a #3 be overkill for a 55 gal tank?

I've got 2 #2's. #3's I think would be too much for a 55. They really kick out some flow. As far as sucking in a fish, they are designed pretty good and come with an attachment to keep them completely out.

^That's what I was thinking. Maybe I'll get a #2 now, and then I'll see later to get another #2 or #3 if/when I'm upgrading to a larger tank. Thanks.

dunno if this has already been said but i think you are talking about the aquaclear powerheads and if you place a bioball over the intake it works very well
