Powerhead Placement?

As I am trying to finalize my gameplan as far as equipment goes for my FOWLR 55 gallon, I am curious about the best ways of placing the two Maxi Jet 1200s in my tank. I will have a Coralife Super Skimmer (the 125 gallon version) running as well and providing some movement. I was planning on either placing the jets on opposing sides of the tank and have them pointing toward the middle or placing them both in the rear of the tank moving water toward the front. I am planning on making somewhat of a L-shaped rock outcropping with an open lagoon in the front with the LR I'm going to have and didn't know if the way I set up the rock should dictate the way the water flows.

Also, how far down the tank side do you usually place the jets? Do you suggest keeping them toward the surface, middle, or near sand bed?

Hey Sorry for not posting a reply sooner.

Your rock work will definitely dictate were you place the power heads. You want to ensure that there is water movement everywhere. When you get dead spots you can end up with algae growth. you could place 1 on one end toward the back and high. then the other on the other end toward the front and low

I just placed my 2 maxi 1200's.. and at the advise of the LFS dude I put them about 8" below the surface pointing a diagonal line towards the front of the tank so the water bounces off of the front of the tank. Seems to be a great lay-out so far for me.

I like to place my powerheads so that the flow banks off the glass to distribute the water over a larger area. However, as soon as I set up my new tank, I will have no powerheads in my tank-thank goodness!!!!!setting up a Wave2k...!
You can be creative with the placement of your powerheads and it isn't as critical as you don't have corals to worry about that require different water movements.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I'm sure there will be a lot of trial and error with placing the heads and like coral reefer said, I guess it won't be that major of a deal since I'm not planning on corals, yet I just want to reduce dead spots.
