| Pics...You asked for them ... OK, I guess you can only post one pic at a time. Here is the tank on its coconut wood stand. It is topless for the time being. I have a sump enroute from the States and I have to plumb over the top. You'll understand when you see it.
Ok, the tank ...

| Re: Pics...You asked for them ... birdlady: Thanks. No, I did not build it. I had it built. I'll take another pic when I have it all together with the top and the corner pieces.
Malachi: Jakarta is OK. I could be posted someplace worse. As for the prices and availability, what can I say. But I can only have them for 2-3 years. After that, it is off to another post and starting all over again. |

| Re: Pics...You asked for them ... Malachi,
Turn up the heat and put pans of water on top of every radiator. Break out the sun lamp and snuggle up close to your reef tank.
You're almost here.
Cheers,
Ray |

| Re: Pics...You asked for them ... Yo Ray Pop...ummm how should I start this. Why did you set up the tank without all of the equipment? It looks to me that new tank is ALREADY experiencing some algae problems...more than most. You lack circulation, your temp is probably a little high and most of all you lack filtration. I am not sure how people can reward a tank like this. I believe creatures from the sea need not to be taken from the sea to be put in a glass box by people who are willing to have patients and take responsibility for the animals health.
Please don't take this the wrong way.
Mike

| Re: Pics...You asked for them ... Excuse me MacnReef. I would agree with you...
However, before scorning a fellow 3reefer, especially one posted in a far away place (Jakarta is in Indonesia, the area that most of your SPS's probably originated from) where equipment availability is scarce and livestock is not only dirt cheap but is almost always just a trip to the beach away, I would take a look at the livestock contents of the tank.
Quoted on his signature:
"110 Lbs Live Sand, 88 lbs Live Rock...
1 Red Brain, 1 Green Metalic Brain, 1 Green Donut, 1 Green Bubble coral "
Now my understanding is that 110 Lbs of live sand and 88lbs of live rock (No doubt from the Thousand Island area which is just miles NorthWest of Jakarta) are a semi decent biological filtration system on its own.
I'm pretty sure the 4 corals and the 1 orange linkia star don't produce too much waste in the 110 gal of NSW. Not to mention that there's equiptment on the way from the US.
His 2 powerheads on each side of the tank should be enough to move the water and provide a nice source of circulation. As for heat you can't jump the gun and say that just because he doesn't have a chiller his tank is a fish boiler. ( I control the temp in my tank by controlling the temp of the room it's in. My temp shifts 1 degree when the lights go out. )
As for the algae, it's normal for new tanks to experience algae blooms.
And just so you know birdlady was complimenting his coconut wood stand.
And if you don't like taking creatures from the sea and putting them in glass boxes, you're in the wrong hobby. Quote: |
