non-skimmer filter needed?

I have a prizm skimmer that seems to be working pretty well now, but do I need to have a normal carbon/mechanical filter with this as well or should the protien skimmer be enough?

Also, i have one maxijet 900 enough? I'm considering adding another 900 or 1200 to get even more flow going.

(fish only 50gal tank).

Personally, I think it will be fine. I have just a skimmer on mine but it is a bigger one. You will just have to wait and see by testing the water once a week or whatever you decide, and see that you do not get excessive ammonia or nitrites. With a fish only system, you would probably need to so some type of regular water changes to export nitrates. Of course, this is just MHO

yeah, i think i'll leave it on for now. I have just a tad of ammonia and nitrites. Still a new tank setup, so I think after it goes down to 0 on both of those, I will remove the aquaclear and watch levels. If they stay at 0 it should be ok to run without it. And yes, fish only I'm expecting to do about 10% water changes every 2 weeks. I was thinking of doing 20% every month, but it's probably best to just do 10% every 2 weeks.
