a 400 watt MH would work great for that size tank(hex)

Im new to this saltwater, but ill never give up on my favorite fresh water fish the Silver Arowana! RIP little buddy( he jumped to his death tanks to my carelessness) such a waste of $90 when u leave the top open!

exposed will be fine just make sure you have a good reflector like a parabolic.

I have this reflector that is brand new. Will it work fine or shold i get the bat wing type? i have to buy a bulb what do u guy suggest?

what kind of reflector is it? what do you plan to keep and what do you want the tank to look like(color)?

that will work for a hex. i would keep it at least 12" above the water. what do you plan to keep and what color are you looking for?

Here is a link for the reflector, this one will give you the maximum results with your metal halide. MH Parabolic Reflector Set w/ Mogul Base
If the one you have right now is not like this one that you wont be using the light to its fullest capability.

As for the bulb I dont know if you have a SE mogul base(screw-in) or a HQI(Pin-bulb)base so here is a link to many diffrent types of bulbs.

As for the K rating that is the color of the bulb, 10k will be Sparkling Ice White, 14k will be Sparkling Ice Blue, and 20K will be Vibrant Blue color. If you get a 14k or a 20K bulb you will not need actinics (Blue bulb). For more info on lighting I suggest you see divers article on reef lighting, you can find it in the article section!

I think that style reflector should work fine for you, The bulb will be the most important item in the lighting setup. Spend your money there, and on a good skimmer!
