Default Newb questsions..

i have been into fish since the late 80's and even worked in a fish store for 2 years, but time and money forced me out, Ive recently gotten back into this massive addiction and the concept of a refugium and using LR for filtration.
at any rate my question is this, at the advice of LFS I turned my old W/D into a sump with a small Refuge the dump drops into the filter through 2 4" filterbags are these bags needed, it seems like they would just be a detritus farm?

I used the same type of thing except I used panty hose. They collect alot and kept my sump cleaner than before I started using them..

Not really. I had a simple set up. You can't tell because of my skimmer.. I put panty hoes over the pvc and zip tied it. Worked pretty good for me. Wal-green for 25 cents a pair..lol
