When you are setting up a new tank, when is a good time to add your first coral? Also what are the easiest and most hardy corals out there? Low level of water movement, light and care?

whoa....thats a big question there....probably a couple of months at best....get the tank cycled and doing good for awhile first. How much live rock do you have? Fish? lots of things to consider first... Do lots of reading on beginner corals and then try to make a time-line plan. Xenias...button polyps..are really nice, but are still fragile.

Get the tank going for a few months and use that time to read as much as possible. Get the live rock cycled and the tank well balanced before stocking with corals. Just my advice on saving life and money.

Good luck...and take it slowly....you'll enjoy it alot more that way!!!!

HI, how big is the tank?If it is 90 or larger I would wait about 4 to 6 week anything smaller even longer.as for fish wait just a few days or when your water is good and you have everything running. do like scoffer said"Good luck...and take it slowly....you'll enjoy it alot more that way!!!! "I like mushrooms for new tank setups they are very easy to take care of..I have one that I have had *for 4 years now.polyps also are good..

Once the tank has cycled and the Ammonia and Nitrites are being converted you can add coral.

The types of coral I would add initially would be any coral that has large polyps. The problem being, after the cycle you will get an algae bloom and that bloom could well block the polyps of some corals.

After that coral selection is really dependant on lighting levels and water movement :-)

The other thing to consider at this early stage is that some corals will need feeding, so keep that in mind when you decide
