Talking New peep with a few questions.:)

Hi everyone!!!
I've spent the last few hours on this site and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

I have 4 tanks so far.
1-55gal predator... 2 white line groupers, 1 blue spot grouper, 1 snowflake eel, and 1 black volitan lionfish (Don't worry, all are small). Crushed coral substrate, 90+ lbs of Fiji LR. Everything tests 0.

1-30gal SW community.... 1 tiny baby snapper, 1 tiny babby hamlet, 1 false perc clown, 2 pistol shrimp and their buddy gobies, 2 emerald crabs, snails and asst hermits. Live sand and lots of Fiji LR. 0 again.

1-125 gal African Cichlid.... too much to list, lol.

And finally 1-7 gal mini reef. My most recent aquisition, this is where my questions lie.
I have a XP-1 canister filter on it, Lunar AquaLights, and a tiny protein skimmer (can't remember the brand).
I perchased this mini reef from a friend.

My q's are these.......
There is some weird purple/pink fuzz growing amongst some of the little polyps. Any clue what this could be? The hermits and snails go in it, but don't seem to eat it.
I'll try to get some pics.

And finally, I have 1 small false perc clown in this tank (he came with it)..... should I leave him in there?

Thanks for any help!
Jin

The clown should be fine in there, and the fuzz, i have no idea what it is but i get it too. usually i find a bunch of it on the substrate like a tumbleweed.

Welcome to 3reef!
Your tanks sound awesome, maybe some pictures? We 3reefers love pics!

Welcome to 3reef!
Best of luck to you!
The stuff you are talking about without seeing a picture of it will be hard to pin point. If I were a betting man I would say that they are either sponge or hydroids. You will have to give a better description and or take a picture to better help you out! Does it look like tentacles? Does it have one or two openings evident in sponges and tunicates?

Salutations! Glad to see you found way here!

Sounds like you have enough aquariums to keep you busy...

Post pics of questionable "fuzz" if you can.

Happy New Year!

Thanks for the welcome!

The fuzz looks kinda like pink/purpleish lint/furry dust, no tentacles or any openings that I can see. It's all up inbetween my lil' polyps and it seems to grow in bunches in a few other places on the live rock.

"Nemo" (original name, I know, lol) likes to rub in it and it doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

I'm really happy with my little tank, it's been a lot of fun.

I was never really into saltwater and never even considered having a reef until recently, even though I've worked in the pet industry for the past 14 years (7 years at my current job, a nice family owned shop, I was originally hired as their reptile/bird dept. manager, lol!)....... now I'm planning my next reef (at least a 200 gal) and I'm now running the fish department.
I maintain 7 - 75 gal SW fish only, 2 - 75 gal sale reef, and 2 - 125 gal sale reef tanks at the shop. Before I took over the dept. I was rarely in it other than to bag things up. Our former fish specialist left us in a lurch and I jumped in head first, I'm loving every second of it! Since I've taken it over we're up 40% in SW/coral sales and we are experiencing a huge drop in losses.
A lot of my reptile keeping experience has helped me in the reef, especially the lighting aspect.

I hope to become a regulr fixture here and pick everyone's brains as much as possible.

Have a safe and Happy New Year!!!!!!!!
