| Need ideas on 30gal fish setup If there is a link that shows me a nice setup for 30 gal on what fish to get that would be great. I am not sure what all I want for the tank. I know I want two clown fish but not sure what else it would need? I have 60lbs of live rock. The tank is cycled and ready for use. I would like to add corals later on with the proper lighting if that helps. |

| Gosh...input for a "virgin" 30 gal!
Ton of things you can do with it.
Concentrate first on lighting, then adjust from there.
Relatively lowlights...stick with soft corals.
Clowns of course a must.
Question is whether you want a calm peaceful tank, or a busy one? --- answer may help make decision on what "brand" clowns to get.
Good Luck.
Have Fun.

| Clowns can be aggressive so be careful with them together as well as with other tank mates!
Gobies and blennies are a good choice as well as a small Yellow Tang and Flasher or Fairy Wrasse!

| Be careful with jumping fish if you are going to have an open top. Also take into consideration if you want to keep ornamental shrimp. Many small wrasses and pseudochromis are jumpers and will harass shrimp. Take your time, research each fish before buying it and see how it fits into your planned ecosystem. Write down on paper what you want to keep in your tank. Plan on what tank janitors you want to keep as well. And be wary of many salesmen in your LFS. One last bit of advice, don't over stock with fish especially if you plan on keeping corals. You'll want to keep those nitrates at zero to avoid problems with nuisance algae and to keep your corals healthy.
I vote for true percula clowns because of their smaller size. Maybe a canary blenny or midas blenny for a splash of yellow color and a royal gramma. The only damselfish I would consider is the Chrysiptera parasema-yellowtail blue damselfish which is the least aggressive of the blue damsels. Its a beautiful fish that is many times is over looked because of its cheap price and bad reputaions of damselfish. Small gobies should be considered as well. _________ 75g reef with Nova Extreme 8 bulb HO T-5 lighting, refuge, Remora skimmer, DSB, Seio powerheads, Acro's, LPS corals, assorted zoo's & mushrooms, Yellow Tang, Maroon Clown, Blue Cleaner Goby , Cleaner, Fire and Sexy Shrimp, Coco Worm, T.Crocea Clam, Derasa Clam

| Learn to Live With It Adam Blundell M.S.
"...As surprising as it may seem your tank will look ugly at first. This happens to all new marine aquariums as they cycle through their initial filtration phase. Your tank may go brown, and then green, and then red, and then just look junky. It happens. Consequently the one coral you really want to keep may not live. You may struggle to raise the prize fish you originally intended to acquire. It's okay; just learn to love whatever is working for you. Remember, not only is this a hobby, but we are keeping living ecosystems. Special efforts should be put forth to enjoy and appreciate what we are keeping, whatever it may be. It takes time and patience to turn a glass box full of rock into a beautiful, thriving reef tank..." ] |
