Default need help with water condition

I dont know where to get water for my tank. My nitrate keveks are high and I cant seem to get it down even with cutting down on feedings, light and doing water changes. This might be a stupid question but will using bottled water help?

Where are you currently getting your salt water from? Are you buying the SW ready to put into the tank or are you mixing a salt mix with FW?

Are you using RO/DI or tap water? If you are indeed using tap water, your local water may have high levels of nitrates....

I would not use bottled water. Find a local fish store that sells R.O. water if possible.

RO?DI is a reverse osmosis filter system that filters your tap water so you can use it for drinking and/or tank. go to Aquarium supplies for your tropical fish tank, saltwater fish tank, saltwater aquarium fish, freshwater aquarium fish & reef aquarium. Aquarium filters, aquarium lighting, aquarium tanks, protein skimmers & more for your reef tank. and look for the ro units.

RO/DI=Reverse Osmosis/Deionized water. It's a special filter that takes all of the nasties out of tap water. Bottled water is not recommended because it contains alot of minerals and such that are good for our bodies but not good for a fishtank. If you call your local fish store and ask if they have RO water for sale, they should know what you're talking about.

Most of the local stores here sell 5 gallon containers of RO/DI water...Depending on the size of the tank, that might be the way to go. In the long run, investing in a RO/DI filter would be your best bet...
