| need help! I have a finger leather that is just gorgeous and huge. On the weekend he started shrinking up, which I know is a normal occurance with leathers due to them growing. Well Tuesday it's even smaller and waxy...that's normal too. The base has a inch and a half of pink colour (just like it usually is) and I can see the mucous sloughing and I can see it's pores(where the polyps come out) But on wednesday I noticed in the middle of it's body there is a little flesh missing. I don't know if this is normal or what I should be looking for if there is a problem. I attached a pic and circled my concern. Please anyone with advice I need it. I love this leather. Do you think my lighting is good enough? _________ 20g

| If it was me, I would put that sucker in some strong current and make sure your water paramerers are up to par. Mabey even do a small water change, that can never hurt. How much light does your tank have? Mostly just give it some strong current and that will help it in a few days if its not already infected.

| Okay leathers are weird. My leather is standing up straight and polyps are comings out! I don't think it was melting, I think it is doing that waxy and growing thing they do. Does it have a name...I guess it's kinda like molting.
I just did a water change. It is in a good flow area, we changed it last night and I think that's what helped it as it wasn't sloughing off the waxy buildup.
Umm I thought I had all my info in my sig. Yes the flame scallop is still alive and seems to be good. My perameters are:
ammo 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
phos 0
ph 8.2
ca 420 ppm
alk 9 dkh
sg 1.025
temp 80 always
everything else is doing great. My seamats are full, xenia happy and pulsing, candy cane great, rics huge, frogspawn....wow they grow fast. |

| Hey Jason, I find it wierd too. I have read everywhere that leathers do shrink and become waxy when they grow. An hour after I put this thread out it started standing up straight, polyps out and looking better. Leathers are complex.
I dose esv bionic a few times a week. I also dose reef plus but only once and that for vitamins and small amounts of iodine. I did a small dose only and I did test my iodine, which seemed a little low.
Well I just hope the leather was growing. If so it's gonna be huge. It already was pretty big. |
