| LR Question Hi Guys.
I was just looking around through the threads and i can't really find answers for my questions.
how much LR should you have per gal. I am designing a 90 gal tank. I read that some 20 gal tanks have something like 20-35 lbs of LR.
can the LR replace a wet/dry filter using bio balls? or would it be a bonus to use both?
Thanks,
Bunner! |

| I have a 34 gallon RSM (sump is 5 gallons, so technically it's 29 gallons) and I have about 22 lbs of live rock in it. After setting that much up, It looks like I need at LEAST 0.6 times that amount more. |

| I have 30 lbs in my 38 gallon, and 15 in my 20 gallon. I plan on doubling that to 60 and 30, so that would be about 1 1/2 lbs per gallon.

| As long as you keep them clean by useing filter media before the bioballs you should be ok until you can get some rubble in it. I still use them and have never had any problems with nitrates. I have about 150-170 lbs of LR in my 90 gallon, filled to the gills.
To answer your question, yes the LR can take the place of your bioballs and thats what most people do now a days. They slowly remove the bioballs over a few weeks and place LR rubble in where the bio`s were. |

| you can usually pick up some LR rubble pretty cheap though right? Our LFS sells LR for $9 a pound but sell the rubble for $2 a pound. |
