Default Iodine/Iodide

This is a silly question, but does Seachem Reef Plus have enough Iodine for 2 small ricordia and my inverts? or do I have to add Seachem Reef Iodide also?

Also, does soft corals take alot of calcium from the water?

Thanks!
GKW

You can check on the bottle, it says what it contains and how much. You have to bring up to the level desired and keep it there. Iodine is used up quick and is also skimmed out, so you have to ensure you keep in the system. Dont add any Iodine until you get a test for it, as it can build to very toxic levels that will wipe out inverts and destroy coral tissue.

In 12 years of reefkeeping, and with all the tanks I have (10 at the moment) I've never found a need to suppliment any form of Iodine/Iodate/Iodide.
Believe it or not, you do add that and other trace elements every time you feed the tank.
As already mentioned, don't add anything that you don't test for and find it lacking.
(I do water changes to lower the trace element levels so I definitely don't want to be adding any)

Eventhough that proves to be true to many, Iodine is an important chemical that needs to be present in a reef aquarium. If you read up, everyone just about uses and needs it, including some inverts. Dosing it is important to make sure you sustain it in the system and maintain it properly and constantly.

I'd be interested in knowing where the legitimate justification for having to dose can be fouind.
It is my perception that the majority of reefers do not dose iodine. In fact, around here, I don't think I could find one in a hundred that uses it.
From the posts on all the boards I frequent, it appears that the majority of respondents on those forums also do not use it.
If so many tanks work out fine without dosing, then what is it about others that they need so much more iodine than the majority to the point of needing extra added beyound what the tanks get when normal feeding occurs?
One of many typical posts can be found at this link.

GKW,
I use Seachem Iodide test kit and I like it. I also use quite a bit 10ml evey other day or so-but I have hundreds of softies that seem to use it up. I would get a good test kit and dose per what your tank uses. As far as the Reef Plus, I also use that along with reef trace and I have had great results. The RP will make your skimmer go nuts so I turn it off for a day after I dose. Good luck and if you want to ask an expert I would ask Seachem directly. good luck!

I use it sparingly. I have softies that seem to drink it and it seems quite beneficial in establishing coraline.
