Default help with sump size

I have a 56 gal tall tank, and was planning on building a sump/fuge out of a 20 gal tall glass aquarium. If I do will this and the skimmer be enough filtration for the tank, or do I need to add something else. The 20 gal. is the largest tank that will fit under my stand. Any help would be appreciated!

A 20 will work just fine IMO. Do you have live rock in the tank? What skimmer are you running?

Marc.

I am running a hand-me down prism skimmer, and I have about twenty pounds of live rock in the tank. I am planning to order about 50lbs more this week.

Default how about a DSB with live rock and skimmer

HI,
I would consider a DSB with live rock and a skimmer, its will remove most of the soluble stuff and help with the Detri if you use snails I ve found 100's of snails for <20 bucks on e-bay, mine are laying eggs like crazy and they are fast moving for snails and only stir the very top of teh sand allowing the nitrite reduction to occur. maybe 5-6 in of sand with a laval rock pile in the middle, I would add a couple pounds of live sand from your LPS that stuff you order dies before you get it.
My local LPS gave me about a dozen bristtle worms for the DSB that helps to and will keep the sand loose. I don't care for hermits they tend t kill things and many o the sand siffting stars can be POD killers.
I also have a shoe box full of that cheato it seems to help
Doug
here's a pic of my 20 tall. it has heat, skiimer and a phos reactor i built.
