Default grunge

I was reading on Garf and was wondering what exactly Grunge was. Sounds like just live sand to me.

I'm still months away from purchasing everything I need for a tank and was wondering if I should purchase some to help spur on growth and help cycle the new tank.

Yah, its rubble/sand from their old systems. You can get lots a freebies in it, I got 7 diffrent single polyps that all grew into colonies. I got 2 kinds of Xenia, 2 toadstools, wood polyp, clove polyp and a small frag of gsp, IIRC.

If I were to help use this to help start up my tank, would I have to worry about mantis shrimp in them or any other bad parasites?

There is nothing in GARF Grunge that you need to worry about. They collect it mainly from their fragging systems. I believe the infuse the old stuff, with more new stuff, on occassion, but they'd never throw anything into their tanks that you'd not want.

Several of my friends and I have all used GARF Grunge to infuse our LS and DSB's with excellent results. I never really orderred corals packs from them, but I have gotten cleaner crews from them. I like the selection of snails and hermits Leroy puts together.
