Question GenX 6000 Loud

Hello everyone. I figured I would ask since I just setup my tank. The GenX 6000 sump is so loud. Anyone have any advice or the same issue??

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to 3reef first of all!!! Best of lcuk with your tank(s)!
Regarding your noise issue...is the pump being used in your sump for return? You may be getting vibration noises!!! try using a mouse pad(from a computer) to place underneath the pump...it may decrease the noise!!!

What seems to be happening is that it is sucking all of the water and pumping it back into the tank but the sump then is not covered by water and sputters when trying to get more water into the aquarium. It is quiet when underwater but then gets loud when it kicks all the water out. I have tried adding more water and it still will not stay under. Cannot figure this out.

What is happening is that your return pump is too strong for the water that is being gravity fed to your sump from your main tank!

Ok that makes sense. What is the easiest way to fix this with the current sump or is the only way to get a less powerful sump??

I have a 65 Gal tank by the way, so not sure if that is more pump than I need.

Welcome to 3Reef! I think your problem is that your overflow cannot keep up with your return pump. One good way to fix that without buying a diffrent pump is to install a ball valve on the return line, That way you can controll how much water is being pumped back into the tank. Another way would be to increase the amount of water going to the sump. I dont know if you have a built in overflow or a overflow box hanging on the back of the tank. You will want to fixx that fast because it is not good for the pump to suck air like that. Well good luck on the fix and let us know how it turns out!
